Using the USCI I2C Master (Rev. A)

Texas Instruments
This document describes how to use the I2C master function set for MSP430™ devices with the USCI module. These functions can be used by MSP430 master devices to ensure proper initialization of the USCI module and provide I2C transmit and receive functionality. A similar version with DMA support has also been included. The USCI I2C master function set only supports single-master transmitter or rece

Optimizing TPS6206x External Component Selection

Texas Instruments
The TPS6206x internal compensation network is optimized for an LC output filter composed of a 1-µH inductor and a 10-µF ceramic capacitor. The device is designed to operate with nominal inductor values of 1 µH to 1.2 µH and with ceramic capacitor values of 10 µF to 22 µF. By selecting the proper feedforward capacitor a wider range of output inductors and capacitors can be used with the TPS6206x.

Texas Instruments
This application report describes the development of a real time system for tracking a walking person using a high-speed image processor and an active camera head. The image processor is composed of f

IC Building Blocks Form Complete Isolated 4-20mA Current-Loop

Texas Instruments
Current loops have become the standard for signal transmission in the process control industry. Current loops are insensitive to noise and are immune to errors from line impedance. Adding isolation to the 4-20mA current loop protects system electronics from electrical noise and transients. It also allows transducers to be electrically separated by hundreds of volts.

AN-1559 Practical RTD Interface Solutions (Rev. B)

Texas Instruments
This application report is intended to review Resistance Temperature Devices (RTD) and commonly usedinterfaces for them.

AN-256 Circuitry for Inexpensive Relative Humidity Measurement (Rev. B)

Texas Instruments
Of all common environmental parameters humidity is perhaps the least understood and most difficult tomeasure. The most common electronic humidity detection methods albeit highly accurate are not obviousand tend to be expensive and complex (See Box). Accurate humidity measurement is vital to a number ofdiverse areas including food processing paper and lumber production pollution monitor

Using Voltage Supervisor for Input Over-Voltage Protection in LED Drivers

Texas Instruments
Lighting electronics meant for AC-DC applications tend to get subjected to input line variations leading to sustained over-voltage on the driving circuitry. Metal oxide varistors (MOV's) meant for suppressing the transients fail at such sustained over-voltage leading to system failure and hence the need for incorporation of separate circuitry for the Input Over-Voltage Protection. The TLV809 famil

Parallel Processing With TMS320C4x

Texas Instruments
This document presents an in depth discussion of the TMS320C40 ('C40) digital signal processor (DSP) an introduction to parallel processing hardware applications software algorithms and end-applications for the 'C40 32-bit floating-point DSP. The hardware applications prototype the 'C40 to the CYPRESS VICo68/VAC068 Interface and AMELLIA an A/D or D/A interface to the TMS320C40 global bus. The

LVPECL and LVDS Power Comparison

Texas Instruments
Emitter-coupled logic (ECL) including positive ECL (PECL) and low-voltage PECL (LVPECL)) interfacing often the first solution considered when a high-speed interface is needed suffers from high power consumption. TIA/EIA-644 low voltage differential signaling (LVDS) provides a low-power alternative to ECL when selecting a high-speed interface solution. This paper compares the power consumption o

CAN Bus Bootloader for TMS570LS04X MCU

Texas Instruments
A bootloader enables field updates of application firmware. A controller area network (CAN) bootloader enables firmware updates over the CAN bus. The CAN bootloader described in this application report is based on the Hercules™ ARM&red; Cortex™-R4 microcontroller. This application report describes the CAN protocol used in the bootloader and details each supported command.

Gas Gauging Basics Using TI Battery Monitor ICs (Rev. A)

Texas Instruments
To solve the challenges of precise capacity tracking and monitoring Texas Instruments has developed a family of accurate battery monitor devices. These devices use the coulomb counting method in order to provide the user with accurate and reliable information about the battery?s state of charge. The purpose of this report is to provide the basics of building an accurate gas-gauging feature using
