The LTC3880/LTC3880-1 are dual, PolyPhase DC/DC synchronous step-down switching regulator controllers with an I2C-based PMBus compliant serial interface. The controllers use a constant frequency, current mode architecture that is supported by LTpowerPlay? software development tool with graphical user interface (GUI).Switching frequency, output voltage, and device address can be programmed using external configuration resistors. Parameters can be set via the digital interface or stored in EEPROM. Voltage, current, internal/external temperature and fault status can be read back through the bus interface. Demonstration Circuit DC2100B-D is a stackable, bidirectional cell balancer slave board using the LTC6804-2 and the LTC3300-1 ICs to achieve active balancing of up to 12 Li-Ion cells. It requires the DC2100B-C for proper operation. The DC2100B-D uses a single LTC6804-2 Multi-Cell Addressable Battery Stack Monitor IC to measure cell voltages and two LTC3300-1 Synchronous Flyback ICs to provide active cell balancing. The DC2100B-C controller board contains a PIC18F47J53 microcontroller, the LTM2884 isolated USB transceiver, the LTC6804-2, two LTC3300-1 ICs, and the LTC6820 isoSPI Interface IC to facilitate isolated communication. Up to seven DC2100B-D boards can be connected to a DC2100B-C to build a stacked system of eight total boards.

It offers an LTC-proprietary technique that enhances the signal-to-noise ratio of the current sense signal, allowing the use of inductors with very low DC winding resistances as the current sense element for maximum efficiency and reduced jitter.The maximum current sense voltage is programmable from 10mV to 30mV. High speed, low offset remote sense differential amplifiers and a precise 0.6V reference provide accurate output voltages between 0.6V and 3.5V from a wide 4.5V to 38V input supply range. The LT8612 is a compact, high efficiency, high speed synchronous monolithic step-down switching regulator that consumes only 3?A of quiescent current. Top and bottom power switches are included with all necessary circuitry to minimize the need for external components. Low ripple Burst Mode operation enables high efficiency down to very low output currents while keeping the output ripple below 10mVP-P. A SYNC pin allows synchronization to an external clock. Internal compensation with peak current mode topology allows the use of small inductors and results in fast transient response and good loop stability. The EN/UV pin has an accurate 1V threshold and can be used to program VIN undervoltage lockout or to shut down the LT8612 reducing the input supply current to 1?A. Multiple boards can be linked through a 2-wire isolated serial interface (isoSPI™) to monitor a long series of cells in a stack. The DC2192B demo circuit also features reversible isoSPI enabling a redundant communication path. The PCB, components and DuraClik connectors are optimized for low EMI susceptibility and emissions. The DC2192B can communicate to a PC by connecting a DC2792B dual master isoSPI together with DC2026  Linduino® One. The DC2026 must be loaded with the appropriate program (called a sketch) to control the battery stack monitor IC and receive data through a USB serial port. The DC2026C provides a standard SPI interface which can be translated to isoSPI and then connected to a DC2192B isoSPI port (J3/J4 connector). The DC2792B provides two SPI-isoSPI channels for reversible operation.

Demonstration circuit 2220A is a 2A, bidirectional charger/regulator featuring the LTC3643, a bidirectional synchronous step-up charger and step-down converter. DC2220A implements backup by charging a storage capacitor up to approximately 40V in boost mode, when the input voltage is present. It discharges the storage capacitor in buck mode, providing a regulated load voltage 5V when the input is removed. Its wide voltage range, both in capacitor charger mode and in system backup mode, makes it well suited to a wide variety of applications. The ability of the LTC3643 to boost an input rail to a relatively high voltage of 40V, combined with the DC2220 option of adding external capacitor banks, makes this regulator an excellent choice for energy storage applications.
