Description

The LTC4331 is a point-to-point SMBus compatible I2Cslave device extender designed for operation in high noiseindustrial environments. Using a ?60V fault protecteddifferential transceiver, the LTC4331 can extend an I2C/SMBus bus, including SMBALERT and a control signal,over a single twisted pair differential link up to 1200m.With an extended common mode operating range thesolution provides tolerance to large ground differencesbetween nodes. For EMI sensitive environments, a slewrate control pin reduces the EMI emitted from the differentiallink.In addition, the LTC4331 can act as an I2C to I2C bridgeallowing independent bus frequencies between the localand remote networks. The solution is completely transparentto the master requiring no additional code in mostcases; however, a control interface is provided for additionalconfiguration and fault monitoring.A master controller fully supporting SCL clock-stretchingis strongly recommended.Applications Industrial Control and Sensors Lighting and Sound System Control
