Wearable Temp-Sensing Layout Considerations Optimized for Thermal Response

Texas Instruments

This application note covers thermal response considerations for sensors that come in a DSBGA package for measuring skin temperature for applications such as wearables such as fitness bands and medical devices.

It will specifically focus on the LMT70, a 0.88mm x 0.88m 0.13°C max accuracy (0.05°C typ) temp sensor over the human body temperature range, but learning can be applied to other temperature sensors that come in a similar package, whether they be analog or digital sensors. Contact temperature sensors, such as the LMT70, need to be placed in close contact with the surface that needs to be measured.

This can be quite challenging for the DSBGA package that is if fast thermal response is also necessary. Experimental results of different PCB layouts will be presented when measuring axillary.

Interface Circuits for TIA/EIA-644 (LVDS) (Rev. B)

Texas Instruments
This design note provides information concerning the designing of TIA/EIA-644 interface circuits. The TIA/EIA-644 standard is discussed including electrical characteristics interconnections line termination and noise immunity. Finally eye patterns are used to measure the effects of signal distortion noise signal attenuation and the resultant intersymbol interference (ISI) in a data transmis

Off-Line SMPS Failure Modes PWM Switchers and DC-DC Converters

Texas Instruments
Today's voltage regulator modules (VRMs) employ off-line SMPS techniques. Traditionally they are usually discarded when they fail because they are so challenging to debug and so inexpensive to replace. Investigation of these failed modules reveals some common failure modes. Some failures are caused by other systems' passive components that fail after repeated electrical stress. Recognizing these

Extended Precision Radix-4 Fast Fourier Transform Implemented on the TMS320C62x

Texas Instruments
This paper discusses a method by which the Texas Instruments (TI)(tm) TMS320C62xx or C62xx high performance fixed point DSPs overcome the traditional advantage held by floating point DSPs -- precision and speed.Using the Radix-4 Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) this document illustrates how extended precision arithmetic multiplication in particular can be performed on the 'C62xx. Using the te

TMS470R1x DMA Restart Procedure

Texas Instruments
In many TMS470R1x applications direct memory access (DMA) is used to move data between the system memory and peripherals to communicate with external devices. When the external device detects a data error a request (normally an interrupt) will be sent to the TMS470 to restart the unfinished DMA block transfer. This application note presents a generic software approach to restarting the DMA chan

MSP430 Based Digital Thermometer

Texas Instruments
This application report describes a digital thermometer design that uses the slope ADC capabilities of the Timer Port module on the MSP430x3xx microcontrollers. This report can be used more generally as a reference on how to connect resisitve sensors and reference resistors to the Timer Port module.

Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) (Rev. A)

Texas Instruments
This application report provides an overview of electrostatic-discharge (ESD) test models failure modes protection strategies and Texas Instruments (TI) procedures to guard against ESD failures.

Validating High- and Full-Speed USB on TMS320C5517

Texas Instruments
This application report describes the process to validate electrical requirements of high- and full-speed USB operations on the TMS320C5517 device.

Using the TPS3619 with MSP430 Microcontrollers Can Reduce Sys Power Consumption (Rev. A)

Texas Instruments
The MSP430 series of microcontrollers are ideal in applications where battery life is critical. These microcontollers require only 0.1?A of current in low-power RAM retention mode; In this mode the
