Because of the programmability of the digital signal processor the TMS32010 can also be programmed to handle Dual-Tone MultiFrequency (DTMF) encoding and decoding over telephone lines. For a system already performing digital signal processing functions using the TMS320 this DTMF capability may be obtained at no additional hardware cost.
