PMP5185 is a 5V 100mA converter off a wide input range with a focus on efficiency down to 5mA loading. With the TPS54040: a 220uHy choke and a 100kHz operating frequency; a near 70% efficiency was achieved at 5mA rising to 90% at and near full load. We have newer parts with light load variable frequency for high efficiency at light loads: such as the TPS54226; but the TPS54040 design can be used for input voltages up to 40V
