Fault Monitoring for Overhead Fault Indicators using Ultra Low Power Reference Design

Description

Fault Indicators (FI) are devices installed at certain distance on overhead power lines in electric power distribution networks to detect and indicate the occurence of faults. The benefit is reduction in outage times by identifying the fault zone easily.  The TIDA-00807 reference design features an ultra‐low power MCU and discrete analog front end to monitor and measure the current and voltage parameters where it is installed. In addition: a self‐test mechanism comprising of a DAC and Hall Switch can be configured to execute a diagnostic program that permits the system to test itself.

Features
  • Current voltage measurement range: 0.5-100A: 50-300VMeasurement accuracy: ≤±2%Multiple gain stage and ADC channels used for covering wide curent and voltage rangeDual rail: configurable DC-DC converter (with integrated load switch) adds flexibility with power savingsMCU selected based on ultra-low power consumption: small pin count and footprintSelf test - fault current simulation using DAC and self test magnet detection using hall switch
