Power Supply Reference Design for GPRS Modems using LiSoCL2 Batteries

Description

This design demonstrates how to power GPRS modems in smart meters using LiSoCL2 batteries. GPRS modems require peak current of up to 2A during transmission. This design reduces the peak load requirements on the battery by using the TPS61021A boost converter and a 20F super capacitor to provide the required transmit current. This reduces the overall cost of the system by allowing the use of lower cost LiCoCL2 batteries while maintaining a 10-year lifetime.
