High-speed current shunt monitor reference design

Description

This reference design is a low-side: bidirectional current shunt monitor using high-speed amplifiers. It is intended for applications that could benefit from faster fault detection: single shunt motor control: higher switching frequencies: higher gain: and or reduced general ADC sampling noise. This design featuresthe OPA365-Q1: OPA2836-Q1: and OPA607 in 10 V/ V of gain to monitor a 1-mΩ shunt. The default configuration is for ≤45-A systems: and accurately senses transients up to ±50x Vcc: for a Vcc range of 2.2 V to 5.5 V. The default configuration achieves <250 ns settling time for the typical acquisition period of the 3.3-V: 12-bit internal ADC of most TI motor microcontrollers. This design guide will review necessary considerations for fast and accurate current sensing: and for system safety and efficiency.
